Purpose
Under general supervision, the primary focus of this position is the support and maintenance of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Human Resource Information System (HRIS) in addition to other systems supported by the HRIS team. The incumbent will serve as a technical point-of-contact for assigned functional areas and assist subject matter experts with ensuring data integrity, testing of system changes, report writing and analyzing data flows for process improvement opportunities.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide support for HRIS senior technical staff including, but not limited to, researching and resolving HRIS problems and unexpected results or process flaws; performing scheduled activities and recommending solutions or alternate methods to meet requirements according to standard ORNL procedures, policies and/or precedent
Provide functional and technical expertise to end users of ORNL’s HRIS through report design and generation, integration development, enhancements and maintenance
Contribute to investigating and resolving technically complex problems that are diverse and impactful on the organization utilizing both known solutions and/or developing original or new solutions
Assist in coordinating, reviewing, testing and implementing the application of HRIS system upgrades while ensuring the accuracy of data and maintaining the system’s functionality
Maintain HRIS system tables
Recommend process/customer service improvements, innovative solutions, policy changes and/or major variations from established policy that must be approved by appropriate leadership prior to implementation
Provide overall project management for a given HR initiative
Write, maintain and support a variety of reports or queries utilizing appropriate HRIS reporting tools
Assist in the development of standard reports for ongoing customer needs
Help maintain data integrity in systems by running queries and analyzing data
Develop user procedures, guidelines and documentation and train staff and new systems users on new processes/functionality as required
Participate in user group meetings/conferences
Assist staff and occasionally performs tasks outside of primary assignments Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements
Maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics
Qualifications Required:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science and a minimum of two years of relevant HRIS experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. Ability to apply competent professional judgment and knowledge while solving a range of complex technical problems is required. A thorough understanding of HRIS database design, structure, functions and processes, and experience with databases tools is required. A working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as experience with SAP is required. Experience with Web Dynpro preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills are mandatory. Incumbent will have experience with working with information of a business sensitive nature, with proven ability to meet this responsibility in a professional and ethical manner.
Qualifications Desired:
Familiarity with relevant equipment, systems, software programs, established policies, procedures and work methods at ORNL is a plus. The ability to lead and manage complex technical projects across organizational units is preferred. Previous exposure to project-related activities through active participation in system-related projects is a plus.
Work Direction and Interfaces
Reports to the Manager, Compensation, Employee Records and HRIS. Interfaces with other departments in support of inquiries related to HRIS demands and issues.
