You remember those days when you would try to submit something, it would take up to ten minutes on a bad day, and then the page would refresh ten to fifteen times for no reason before the entire server crashed and you lost all of the work that you'd been doing for the past five hours.
Web 2.0 has given birth to Rich Internet Applications, or RIA which are dedicated to improving the overall user experience. The new thing clients are made to provide more functionality, or at least equal functionality to the previously used fat clients from the old days.
Business software has never looked good, especially web based business software, and for some reason the improved technology always ended in more wait times and more refreshes. Fortunately business software has come a long way since then! There are still going to be problems, some of which include the following:
Compatibility: Is the software compatible with the operating system or the web browser? Being web based it has to meet everyone's needs.
System Requirements: This isn't much of a problem anymore because most businesses are upgrading their old computers, but the software needs to actually be able to run.
Usability: Is it easy to use, even if it doesn't look good? That's definitely something that needs to be addressed!
The overall problem present with previous web based business software is that when the developers created their software, they forgot about the user. Yes the software might have worked perfectly but could it be used? Probably not; and as a result many different SAP careers were born. Many companies use SAP software, some of which was just not very easy to use. Many SAP jobs and SAP employment were sought out and generally attained so long as one could pass the SAP certification tests. Is this a good thing? It's a gray area because while it created a lot of frustrated users it also created a lot of jobs.
With the introduction of RIA users have not been forgotten. The new software has brought an increase in productivity and even real time data management, unlike the software from previous years. It even has predictive typing and assisted inputs. Best of all, it's no longer complicated.
It certainly took a while, but it seems that RIA software has saved the day. The question is, has it done away with any of the SAP jobs? Because SAP has jumped on the RIA bandwagon there is now more of a need for SAP employment than ever. SAP careers are going through the roof because businesses still need technicians on hand in the event something goes wrong.
SAP has always been at the forefront of business software, whether it be web based or installed on site. Luckily it seems that the days of highly complicated SAP software is going by the wayside, and the days of the user friendly software is making its appearance. Welcome to the new age, where anyone can use any kind of software with ease!
