Becoming a Database Developer

SAP is a relatively new career avenue for individuals who have specialized in either networking or even for individuals with a background as a software programmer. This is a segment showing immensely rapid growth opportunities for an SAP professional. Therefore, one can opt for a career as a database developer. Collection of records and data that are professionally arranged for the purpose of search and also retrieval ease is called a database creation, which is either for an individual user or multiple users. Users are allowed to delete, update and also add information via automation. Here is the job of a database developer, who is assigned for the maintenance and designing of various software and applications, in relation to the functionality of the database.

Responsibilities of a Database Developer

As a database developer, it would be your duty and responsibility to provide support related to various database programming and troubleshooting for most IT related projects. Processes of review in procedures, designs, etc. are done by the developer. Database implementation, backups, upgrading and restoration is done by the developer. He or she has to work along with the other programmers for the tuning of codes related to SQL. Apart from this, the additional responsibility of providing support and maintenance of windows or other operating systems are done by the database developer. Configuration, optimization Oracle support, development and also the maintenance of web interfaces also comes under the responsibilities of the database developer. Database developers have to execute the incorporation of consistent data remains, definition of data, data accessibility to the users, recovery of data and data security.

Educational Qualifications

One needs to have a degree or diploma in computer science or computer programming. Specialization in subjects like software engineering, information technology, electronics, operational research, and computer engineering would be like an added advantage for an aspiring candidate in this particular career segment.

Skills

Candidates would be expected to possess a reasonable amount of programming skills and knowledge in various databases like SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, and programming awareness about SQL, Java and also Visual Basic. A database developer must have strong communications skills with the ability to work in a team and also be able to do negotiations. Along with these, he or she has to have the capability to solve problems, be good in data analysis, and have prior knowledge about the data language manipulation and designs. A prospective candidate must also possess traits such as adaptability and flexibility. With skills for organizing, the ability to function within tight deadlines is some of the other exceptional traits that a database developer must possess. He or she should be aware and be able to comprehend all the business and IT requirements, with a will to be updated with regards to the latest in technological advancement.

Career Prospects

The salary of a database developer is around $80,000 approximately per year. This field is developing and there is a projected peak in this segment predicted by 2016. This is because of the development and recent achievements amassed in the IT field. Another point to be noted is that opportunities are on a rise because of the employment of the computer and its advancements in almost all sectors of industry, be it corporate, retail, institutional, or services.
